Ed – there are 25 members registered on the site. That list is not published on the site for privacy reasons. As to how to contact members, you should have a membership list containing names, phone numbers, and email addresses for those who have them. Contacting individuals through the forums is not a capability of the forums right now. It’s something to look at later on, I think.

Regarding PC literacy – this is an element that is out of my control. However, Berry Williams has asked me to put together a 30-minute presentation as to how to get around on the new forums. I plan on doing that at the reunion for those who are interested. Please check with Berry for more details.

Thanks for your questions and comments.

Thanks for the feedback, Chuck. The fix was easier than I thought it was going to be. The only downside is if Members want to access the forum using their phone. The font size is 18 pixels (up from 11 pixels) and it will show up on a phone also at 18 pixels – that will be tough to handle on a phone (font now too large), but that’s a risk we’ll have to take.

Assuming you gents return to this page, what do you think of the font size now?

The permanent fix will take some knowledge of CSS and coding. I do not have that background, thus it will take time and effort to learn how to make changes. I have no problem getting into it, but it will not happen immediately.

I have over 15 years experience with various types of bulletin boards/forums, but I’ve never seen one that allows an immediate font size command that doesn’t input html coding. This particular platform, bbpress, does not have such a feature – not without getting into html and css commands.

Chuck is correct. If the font size is too small for you, press and hold the Control key while slowly rotating your mouse wheel. That’s a temporary fix. The more permanent fix will take time to research and code.

There is no “OIC” but there are Forum Instructions on the web site tab, right next to the Forums tab itself.

For those interested in participating in the Forums discussions, all it takes is to read those instructions, provide some basic information, and dues-paid BUSMVA members will be registered on the site. I check my email several times per day and am pretty responsive to registration requests.

As to participation – well, any new thing that replaces a familiar old thing will be met hesitatingly — if at all. It’s completely up to the member to participate or not.

The primary reason for the change, as it has already been explained in the December newsletter – and all paid BUSMVA members received that newsletter – was the old hosting company was overcharging BUSMVA ridiculous amounts of money for the most basic services. The software – while functional – was extremely old and not supported any more, even by the software developer himself.

So a change was inevitable. The change may not be liked or appreciated, but the change had to happen. BUSMVA was paying 12 times the amount of money it should have been paying for a web site and bulletin board/forum. That is YOUR money and MY money that was being ripped off. I was in a position to do something about that, and that’s exactly what I did.

I hope this provides some context as to what has happened. Participation in this forum is indeed encouraged, and I hope the same Berlin veterans who enjoyed the old system gravitate toward this one.

Ed, you did a good job posting the message right where it could be found. Gerry also sent me an email, to which I responded. Gerry was provided login information on 18 January, but he apparently is having trouble anyway.

He should be able to log in very soon – I re-sent the original email to him with login credentials.

    Thanks.

There is a new page set up expressly for those wishing to apply for the Welcome Home Tour.

Please hover your mouse pointer over the “BUSMVA Reunions” tab on the menu. The Welcome Home Tour page is the 4th page down. Just click on it and the page will come up. Please read what’s there and if you’re interested in applying, complete the short contact form at the bottom of the page. That will get your information to the Welcome Home Tour Coordinator and he’ll take it from there.

Ed, I added more detailed instructions in the FORUM INSTRUCTIONS page to help others who may have difficulty in logging on.

Obviously, the Forums are very different from the old site. But I’m sure with some practice and patience, BUSMVA members will learn their way around and enjoy the community the way it was on the old site.

    By the way, a tip:

If the text is too small on your screen, and if you have a mouse with a center wheel, you can press and hold the button while rotating the center wheel on the mouse. Your text will get bigger or smaller, depending on the direction you go in.

Thanks, Theodore. Yes, it’s been a bit of a struggle mostly because the hosting situation was such that I couldn’t actually test anything until the site went live.

And as I am NOT a web developer by any means, I made a few mistakes along the way. I think I’ve fixed them and have certainly learned a ton. I hope the guys sorta filter back and pick up where they left off.
